Pound-for-pound boxer Canelo Alvarez has recently expressed interest in facing former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.
Although there is no confirmation of a fight between the two, McGregor has been known to take on boxing matches. The fighter made a historic boxing debut in 2017, facing Floyd Mayweather in what was considered the second-biggest PPV event in history.
Due to this past event, Alvarez has ideas of making money from a slugfest against McGregor. In a sit down with Manouk Akopyan on YouTube, Canelo was asked if he’d be interested in fighting McGregor
“Yeah, why not. And then we show boxing is better…Easy, easy. Way easy money.”
The UFC star hasn’t competed in MMA for years since his injury, and many doubt if he will ever compete in the cage. Despite this, Alvarez still speculates about a battle with the Irishman and predicts how such a fight will go down.
At the time I want,” Alvarez said. “One round, two rounds, three rounds, whatever I want.”
Although unlikely the two will face each other, Alvarez is open to a fight anytime.
“No, it’s nothing,” Alvarez said. “Competition is good. May and September are my days, and the competition is good. I don’t do it in that way, I just focus on my team and focus on what I’m doing, and if somebody wants to do other shows, it’s fine.”
UFC CEO Dana White has made it clear that he won’t shy away from scheduling annual UFC events for Mexican Independence Day. Superstar boxer Alvarez has no problem with this arrangement.
