The AKO show held its 6th edition fight of 2024, and it was a night to remember. The tournament took place on Friday at The Monarch, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria, and was a night of exciting knockouts and a thrilling display of sportsmanship.
Headlining the AKO 6 was the battle between Congolese Ananias Mulumba and Nigerian fighter Jackiel Ayana. The fight turned out to be a fierce bout, with both fighters coming in hot in the first round. Ayana landed the first few punches, but Mulumba recovered with leg kicks before clinching up and scoring some body shots.
Mulumba backed Ayana against the fence, where he delivered some killer punches and a knee to the head before they separated. Mulumba kept at it, landing shot after shot that Ayana couldn’t counter. He soon had Ayana back against the fence, where he landed a body shot before taking the fight to the floor.
Mulumba was relentless with his attacks, delivering elbow shots that Ayana couldn’t block. Mulumba continued to rain down ground and pound, but “The Smiling Assasin” kept the leg lock in check. The strikes continued until the round came to an end, with Mulumba having the upper hand in the opening round.
Ayana came in more cautiously in the second round, but Mulumba was on the attack. He chased Ayana with vicious shots and a left-right combo that had Ayana tip-toeing around the cage, looking for an opening. Mulumba kept at it and landed a left hand that rocked Ayana. He kept on the attack and landed another left before they went in for a clinch against the fence. Ayana went for a head kick but slipped, and Mulumba took this advantage to hammer the fighter with vicious punches before the referee called the fight, leaving Mulumba the winner via TKO.
At the co-main event of AKO 6, Yahaya Yahuza battled Issac Odogu in the middleweight division. Both fighters came in prepared with leg kicks before a takedown by Yahuza. Yahuza went in for a full-body mount and tried to land some shots, but Ododu put him in a body lock. Both fighters were soon back on their feet, but Yahuza flipped his opponent with an arm thrust. Odogu held on tight and put Yahuza in a triangle, but his opponent showed impressive strength by performing a body slam that shook him out of the triangle. Yahuza remained on top and tried to get a knee bar, but Odogu broke out. Yahuza remained in full mount without any shots until the round ended.
The two traded leg kicks in the early minutes of the second round before Yahuza went in for a sprawl. He managed to bag a full mount before securing a triangle hold. The two remained in a body lock, with both fighters trying to land a shot, but neither of them gave their opponent leeway. They remained locked in this position until the round came to an end.
In the third round, Yahuza went in for a takedown, and both remained in a body lock. They both continued landing body and head shots before the round came to a close and in the end, Yahuza emerged victorious with a unanimous decision to win.
