Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano closed the book on one of the most compelling rivalries in women’s boxing history on Friday night July 11, 2025 at Madison Square Garden, New York, with Taylor securing a majority decision victory in their third and final bout. Katie Taylor beats Serrano one last time.

In front of a roaring, sold-out crowd, the two champions delivered another technical chess match, one that was far more cautious than their previous wars. But the stakes couldn’t have been higher, the undisputed super lightweight crown was on the line, and both fighters knew this would be the last time they shared the ring.

Taylor had steadily climbed the ranks of women’s lightweight boxing, collecting belt after belt before defeating Delfine Persoon to become the undisputed champion at Madison Square Garden in June 2019. She went on to defend her title seven times in a row, a run that included her first meeting with Amanda Serrano in 2022, where Taylor narrowly secured a controversial split decision win. She later lost the undisputed crown briefly to Chantelle Cameron but regained it just a few months afterward.

Their rivalry continued in November 2024 on the undercard of the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event, where Taylor once again emerged victorious in another closely contested and debated decision. Serrano, a seasoned veteran, entered the ring on friday night, July 11 with a 47-3-1 record and a decorated career that includes nine major world titles across seven weight classes. Now, Taylor and Serrano face off one final time in the Big Apple, returning to Madison Square Garden for all the marbles.

The fight started slow. Round 1 was super cautious, both Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano just circled and jabbed, barely landing anything. One could feel the tension, like both were trying to figure the other out without taking risks. In Rounds 2 to 5, the pace picked up a bit. Serrano tried to push forward, but Taylor was slick, moving well and landing clean shots as Serrano came in. Every time Serrano threw, Taylor had an answer.

By the middle of the fight, Taylor looked sharper. In Rounds 6 and 7, she was landing nice counters and controlling the distance. Serrano had some moments, but Taylor’s footwork and timing were making the difference. In Rounds 8 and 9, Serrano started coming on stronger again, pressing harder, trying to land big shots. But Taylor stayed calm and kept sticking her with jabs and quick combos.

Then came Round 10, the final one. Serrano came out aggressive, knowing she needed a big finish. But Taylor stepped up big time. She moved, punched, and stayed just out of range, landing the cleaner shots and showing why she’s one of the best to ever do it.

After 10 close rounds, the judges gave it to Taylor by majority decision (97-93, 97-93, 95-95). It was a smart, intense, and emotional war between the two fighters. A real high-level showdown between two legends who gave it everything. The post-fight scene was heartfelt. Taylor, overwhelmed by the crowd, embraced Serrano and praised her for helping “make history three times.”

“I just don’t want to fight Amanda Serrano again, She punches too hard,” Taylor said with a laugh, when asked about a potential fourth fight. Though she didn’t confirm retirement, Taylor made it clear that this trilogy with Serrano is over.

Serrano, fighting back tears, thanked the crowd and reflected on her legacy. “My team told me I won,” she said. “But I’ll have to go back and watch it. Thank you for supporting women’s boxing.”
