EARLY LIFE
Ndidi Alonu is a Nigerian MMA fighter who has taken the combat industry by storm and has proven to be a rising star in MMA. The MMA fighter has battled formidable opponents throughout his whole career. Through sheer determination, he has successfully climbed to the top after emerging winner of the AKO 1 show.
Surprisingly, the fighter’s first introduction to MMA sport was at a professional level in 2012. Still, after suffering defeat, he set a pace for himself and competed at the amateur level. He trained and became confident enough to climb up to the professional level. Alonu lists fighters Georges St-Pierre (GSP) and Anderson Silva as his role models in MMA and aspires to be as great and significant as them. Alonu has been in twenty-one fights throughout his MMA career, with sixteen professional bouts and five amateurs.
MMA CAREER
Alonu is currently ranked #20 on rankers.com amongst the top 30 MMA fighters in Nigeria and emerged winner of the AKO 1 show. The athlete is a skilled MMA fighter and has competed in many national and international combat tournaments. These contests include Fightstar FC, FCF-MMA World Championship, EFC Worldwide, WSC, Lome Fight Night, WSC African Warrior King, AKO show, UAE Warriors, and FOFN3.
For his first bout, Alonu battled Russian fighter Rakhim Debirov at a pro level in the middleweight division. Unfortunately, after many punch-packed rounds, he lost the fight. After the bout, Alonu decided to sharpen his skills by competing at amateur level. He battled Cena Dicken and won the fight by unanimous decision. Later, he faced off against SA champion HP Van Staden and floored his opponent with a TKO in the first round. Next, he faced Gunther Kalunda, but the match ended with a draw. Alonu soon faced Gert Van Antewerp and Gerhard Eksteen in his next two amateur fights where he annihilated his rivals by TKO in round one and round two consecutively.
After this, Alonu permanently moved on to the professional level and battled his second Pietie Coxen at the EFC. He won this bout after landing deadly strikes, resulting in a TKO in the second round. Next, he battled Jonathan Euro in the welterweight division and won the fight by TKO in the first round. Alonu’s next match was more challenging as he squared off against Jean Pierre. The two were evenly matched, and the fight came to a close with a draw.
Later, Alonu battled Beninese Satou and proved to be the better fighter by defeating Satou by KO in the first round. Next, he faced Leandro de Souza and won the match. He soon faced his next opponent, formidable Doupsop Franck. The two engaged each other with deadly strikes and kicks, but by the end, Alonu emerged victorious in round three by split decision. His next bout was against Samuel Ogedengbe, where he grappled his opponent to the ground and took him out with a guillotine choke. Ogedengbe submitted in the opening round, making Alonu the match winner.
He soon lost his winning streak when he battled Angolan fighter Shido Boris Soto. Although Alonu fought like a beast, landing lethal strikes and putting Soto in a guillotine choke, he still lost the bout via split decision. Alonu’s next clash was in the main card event at the AKO show, welterweight division, where he faced Jude Ezegwu. Alonu delivered deadly strikes, including a right cross and uppercut that took Ezegwu out in the first round and led to Alonu’s win.
Next, he faced off Ambrose Godwin whom he defeated in round one via ground pound. Afterward, he faced off against Segun Ogunnoiki who he beat via unanimous decision. Later, he stepped into the cage with Daniel Emeka, but he won the battle unanimously.
Again, Alonu’s winning streak ended when he fought against Eslam Abdul in the middleweight division. He lost the second round via heavy punches (TKO). Next, he faced Zaakir Badat and was also defeated in round three after receiving multiple vicious punches and elbows. His last recorded bout was against his rival Daniel Emeka at the AKO show FOFN3, where he won the fight by split decision.
