UFC fighter Zhang Weili proved herself at UFC 312 after defeating undefeated contender Tatiana Suarez.
The strawweight title was on the line as Weili battled Suarez but both fighters put on an impressive performance. Suarez came in with a lot of spunk and took control of the fight in the opening minute by scoring a takedown. She remained in full mount and went in for a guillotine but could not complete the choke. She put up a fight as she continuously elbowed Suarez till she broke free from the hold and reversed position before the round came to an end.
Suarez came in for another takedown in round two, but her opponent was ready and smoothly reversed position. The champ began raining blows and punches, but Suarez broke free and the two soon got back on their feet. The contender soon went in for another takedown, but Weili ended up on top and continued to hammer her opponent with headshots and elbows. Weili continued to outstrike her opponent on the canvas and her feet. She landed a nasty right hand that rocked Suarez but the challenger remained on her feet.
The two continued to exchange blows, with Weili staying on top of her game and giving Suarez a run for her money. In the final round, Weili went in for her own takedown and locked her opponent in an arm triangle choke, but Suarez managed to wriggle through. She remained under Weili, where she suffered endless shots and a gash on her knee. Suarez tried to grapple Weili, but the champ did not have this and kept on unloading shots and blows to punish her opponent. The fight ended with a stunning victory for Zhang Weili, who was elated by her victory. The champ is open to pursuing a second title in the future and hips to face flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
