Covington

UFC fighter Colby Covington is not entirely over his loss to Joaquin Buckley at the UFC Tampa.

Colby Covington faced Joaquin Buckley at the UFC Tampa. After a few rounds of savage exchanges, takedowns and body shots, Buckley landed a huge punch that opened a cut about Covington’s eyes. The cut left a deep gash on the fighter’s eye that began to impair his vision. Unfortunately for “Chaos”, the cage-side doctor stepped in and declared the fighter unfit to continue, making Buckley the winner via TKO.

This decision did not sit well with Covington, who believed he could continue the fight and turn the tide. In a video on his YouTube channel, Covington spoke about his loss to Joaquin Buckley and said the cage side doctor took away his chance at victory.

“The fight, you know, we were just getting warmed up.” Colby Covington stated on his YouTube channel, reflecting on his knockout loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa. “Everyone knows I’m a fourth and fifth-round fighter, I’m just getting started getting into those championship rounds. I could’ve finished him in that fourth and fifth round. He was breathing heavily. He didn’t have much more to offer. And he wasn’t going to have much volume in those last rounds.

“It was a close competitive fight, he didn’t outclass me, he didn’t drop me, he didn’t really hurt me. There was a little cut that happened, and I rewatched it back. It was like minute two, and it was like a headbutt right off his hip or something. But it wasn’t a punch… It’s unfortunate that DEI doctor stopped the fight early. I thought it was just getting started, and there was a lot more that needed to be settled in there.”

As for now, it is uncertain when Covington will be back in the cage, but he called out Gilbert Burns weeks back, so UFC may put the matchup into the works.
