Former UFC fighter Tyron Woodley is set to return to the cage but this time, he will be fighting under a new promotion.
Global Fight League recently announced their launch would be in April, and the released fight card included many top names in the MMA world. One of those names is the popular UFC fighter Tyron Woodley, who has been out of the game for three years. Since his time away from MMA, the fighter has competed in some boxing matches where he faced opponents like Jake Paul and Floyd Mayweather. The fighter suffered two welterweight losses before his retirement but it seems the fighter is about to make a comeback that many would have never predicted.
“I like it because I like that the OGs get paid, man.” Tyron Woodley stated to Ariel Helwani.” Getting boxing money in MMA is a whole flex. I’m just excited to be a part of the new wave, and I’ve been wanting to get back into MMA. I’ve just been like, putting it on pause. I ghosted it for a minute, but it never ghosted me when I needed it. I’ve been making the journey back anyway… It made sense for me.”
Woodley said signing with GFL was an easy decision for him. He said the promotion guarantees him a spot to face an opponent he has had his sight set on since his time at UFC.
“You’ll see a couple of guys signed that are going to really raise your eyebrows. That’s probably who I’m going to end up fighting. It’ll be a big fight [next], it’s a fight I should’ve had in the UFC that I didn’t. I actually spoke about having this fight [previously]… I’m excited. That kind of stuff makes me excited.”
