Jai Herbert overcomes an early scare and rallies to defeat Matheus Camilo by unanimous decision in the lightweight co-main event of UFC Vegas 122.
Before the middleweight headliners take centre stage, Matheus Camilo and Jai Herbert collide in a lightweight co-main event at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The matchup pits Brazil’s rising finisher against an experienced British lightweight looking to build momentum.
Matheus Camilo enters the contest after back-to-back victories, including a unanimous decision over Viacheslav Borshchev in November 2025 and a first-round TKO of Nazim Sadykhov in June 2026 at UFC Baku. He secured a win at just 1:31 of the opening round and another victory would extend his winning run and strengthen his position in the UFC lightweight division.
Jai Herbert, meanwhile, looks to make the most of his experience and keep climbing the lightweight ranks. The British fighter has spent years competing against tough opposition in the UFC, and this co-main event offers him another opportunity to show he can remain competitive in a demanding division. Herbert’s goal is to build on his latest success and disrupt Camilo’s momentum. To do that, he will need to manage the Brazilian’s aggression, use his range effectively and avoid giving Camilo openings to unleash his power.
Herbert starts on the front foot, applying forward pressure and working behind his jab as Camilo circles on the outside. The Englishman looks to establish his range, connecting with a straight right hand, while Camilo responds with calf kicks and looks for openings with his counterstriking. Herbert remains light on his feet, making it difficult for Camilo to land his low kicks cleanly. However, the Brazilian finds an opening with a powerful hook that catches Herbert and forces him backwards. Camilo capitalises by closing the distance and clinching against the fence. The exchange develops into a grappling battle, with Camilo eventually bringing Herbert down and landing in half guard. Herbert attempts to work his way out of the position, but Camilo maintains control as the round comes to a close. Camilo’s late striking success and ground control give him a strong finish to the opening round.
Camilo increases his aggression at the start of the second round, closing the distance and securing a body lock before taking Herbert down. He works his way to the back and threatens to establish control, forcing Herbert to focus on defending the position. Herbert scrambles to escape, nearly reversing the position, but Camilo maintains top control and continues working to expose his opponent’s back.
Camilo eventually advances to mount, putting Herbert in a difficult position. Herbert remains active, however, constantly moving and looking for an escape rather than allowing the Brazilian to settle into a dominant position. The scramble eventually works in Herbert’s favour as he manages to reverse the position and get on top. With the momentum shifting, Herbert postures up and begins landing punches from the top. Camilo looks for submission opportunities, but his defensive reactions leave openings for Herbert to land additional ground-and-pound. Herbert finishes the round in the stronger position.

Herbert comes out firing in the final round, landing straight punches and keeping Camilo occupied with a steady stream of offence. Camilo responds with a counter hook, but Herbert continues to press forward with punches and kicks. His jab repeatedly finds its target, and the accumulated strikes begin to take their toll, leaving visible damage on Camilo’s face. Herbert mixes his attacks to the body and head, maintaining a higher work rate as Camilo begins to show signs of fatigue. He still finds moments to respond, landing a looping punch before attempting to close the distance and clinch against the fence. However, Herbert continues to defend well and turns the position around, landing knees in close range. Camilo makes another attempt to change levels and secure a single-leg takedown, but Herbert stuffs the attempt and ends up in a favourable position over his opponent. Camilo manages to push Herbert away and return to his feet, but the Englishman’s late control and striking output strengthen his case with the judges. When the final horn sounds, Herbert has done enough to earn the unanimous decision victory.
The victory gives Herbert back-to-back wins and reinforces his position as a difficult test for rising contenders in the lightweight division. For Camilo, the defeat ends his two-fight winning streak after a competitive performance that sees him enjoy success in the opening round and threaten with his grappling in the second.
Another fight on the main card sees Andre Fili deliver a spectacular second-round knockout against Kai Kamaka III, stopping the Hawaiian with a devastating head kick just 22 seconds into the round. The pair exchange strikes throughout a competitive opening round, with Kamaka landing combinations to the head and body while Fili looks to establish his range with the jab. Kamaka closes the distance and presses Fili against the fence, but Fili responds with knees in the clinch before the fighters separate and resume trading punches. Both featherweights find success in the striking exchanges, making the opening round closely contested. The action takes a dramatic turn in the second round. Fili connects with a sharp left hook that briefly stuns Kamaka before following up with a two-punch combination and a perfectly timed head kick. The kick lands flush, sending Kamaka crashing to the canvas. Recognising that his opponent is unconscious, Fili pulls back rather than delivering unnecessary follow-up strikes as the referee rushes in to stop the contest. The victory snaps Fili’s two-fight losing streak and marks his 14th UFC win, while the emphatic finish earns him a Performance of the Night bonus.
