The Legacy Fighting Alliance makes its Belo Horizonte debut on Friday, September 11, with LFA 241 taking place at Ginásio Mineirinho in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The main event features a bantamweight title clash between former LFA champion Vinicius Pires and Rafael Pereira for the vacant LFA Bantamweight World Championship.
Pires enters the championship fight with a 12-2 professional record. The 29-year-old Brazilian is a former LFA bantamweight champion and returns to the promotion looking to reclaim the belt. Known as “Bad Boy Killer,” Pires has six submission-or-knockout victories among his 12 professional wins. For Pires, another LFA title would mark a major step in his comeback to the top of the division.
Standing across from him is Rafael “Mini Man” Pereira, who brings a 15-4 professional record into his biggest LFA opportunity yet. More importantly, LFA’s official event announcement highlights Pereira’s 10-fight winning streak heading into the title bout. That momentum makes him a serious threat to Pires and gives the challenger plenty of confidence entering the championship showdown.
The opening round was largely a tactical battle, with both fighters engaging in measured exchanges as they looked for openings. Neither man was able to produce a decisive moment, and the fight remained competitive heading into the second round The fight changed dramatically in the final seconds of round two. After another competitive round, Pereira found the opening he had been searching for with just 10 seconds remaining. The Brazilian landed a perfectly timed right cross that dropped Pires, prompting the referee to stop the contest at 4:50 of Round 2. Pereira celebrated the emphatic finish as the new LFA Bantamweight World Champion.
The victory capped a remarkable run for Pereira, who entered the bout riding 10 consecutive wins. He now leaves Belo Horizonte as the LFA bantamweight champion after stopping a former titleholder in the biggest fight of his career.
For Pires, the loss ends his latest championship run and hands him only his third professional defeat.
The co-main event also had the fans on their feet. In a razor-thin tactical war, Gustavo Pintos pushed through deep waters to earn a hard-fought split decision victory over Carlos Soares. The three-round clash saw dramatic swings of momentum, with Pintos taking the nod on two judges’ scorecards (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) to cement his standing in the featherweight division.
One other fight on the LFA 241 card that delivered a memorable finish was the middleweight clash between Neemias Santana and Marcos Silva. Santana lived up to his reputation as a dangerous finisher, stopping Silva by TKO via knees and punches at 2:50 of the second round.
The opening round saw both middleweights settle into the fight, with Santana looking to impose himself against Silva. Silva remained competitive, but neither fighter was able to produce a finish during the opening five minutes.
The fight therefore headed into the second round with both men still in contention.
Santana turned up the pressure in the second round and eventually found the finishing sequence. The Brazilian connected with knees and punches, forcing the referee to intervene at 2:50 of Round 2 and officially awarding Santana the TKO victory. It was another emphatic finish on a card that produced several stoppages, giving Santana a statement victory in front of the Belo Horizonte crowd.
