Faeez Jacobs added another major achievement to his growing résumé at EFC 137, stopping Shadrack Yemba to claim the interim EFC featherweight title in Johannesburg.
Already the reigning bantamweight champion, Jacobs moved up in weight and proved he belongs among the promotion’s elite. The South African star weathered a competitive opening round before finding his range and overwhelming Yemba in the second frame. The referee stepped in at the two-minute mark of Round 2, handing Jacobs a TKO victory and interim featherweight gold.
The victory moves Jacobs one step closer to becoming a two-division champion and strengthens his case as one of the most accomplished fighters currently competing under the EFC banner.
While Jacobs headlined the show, the rest of the card delivered several notable performances. JT Botha wasted little time making a statement against former middleweight champion Luke Michael. Botha landed heavy shots early and never allowed Michael to settle into the fight before securing a first-round TKO stoppage with just eight seconds remaining in the round.
German Kokaev earned one of the night’s most dominant victories, outpointing Josiah Obasi across three rounds to secure a unanimous decision. Kokaev’s pressure and control proved too much for Obasi, who struggled to build momentum throughout the contest.
Jason Mackay also picked up a victory on the card, continuing his rise in the promotion with another important win.
