Steve Erceg has reassured fans that he’s doing well after suffering a devastating knockout defeat in the co-main event of UFC Abu Dhabi.
The former flyweight title challenger entered the bout looking to secure his third consecutive victory when he faced rising contender Ramazan Temirov. However, things unraveled quickly for the Australian, as Temirov’s power proved to be the difference-maker from the opening moments of the fight.
Temirov dropped Steve Erceg with a crushing right hand early in the first round and never allowed him a chance to recover. The Uzbek standout continued to apply relentless pressure before landing another perfectly timed right hand that sent Erceg crashing to the canvas and ended the fight.
Following the loss, Steve Erceg took to Instagram to provide an update on his condition and thank those who supported him throughout fight week.
“Hey guys, just wanted to check in and let you know that I’m okay,” Erceg said.
“I had a great camp, felt fantastic, but unfortunately things don’t always go your way. First of all, thank you to the UFC for all the opportunities you’ve afforded me. Thank you to Abu Dhabi for the hospitality, and congratulations to Ramazan on a great fight.
“Lastly, I’d like to say to all my family and friends that your continuous support means the world.
“I’ll be back. Thanks.”
Despite the setback, Steve Erceg remains one of the most respected names in the flyweight division.
The loss snapped a two-fight winning streak that had helped him regain momentum after a difficult stretch in 2024 and early 2025. Erceg had previously ended a three-fight skid with a unanimous decision victory over Ode Osbourne before earning another decision win against veteran contender Tim Elliott.
Before those victories, Erceg challenged Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC flyweight title in just his fourth appearance inside the Octagon. Although he fell short in a competitive performance, the title opportunity highlighted how highly the UFC viewed his potential.
Now, Steve Erceg faces another setback, but his response suggests he remains focused on returning stronger.
Meanwhile, Temirov continues to emerge as one of the most dangerous rising contenders at 125 pounds.
The hard-hitting flyweight improved his UFC record to 3-0 and secured his second first-round finish inside the promotion. Entering UFC Abu Dhabi, Erceg held a spot in both the official media rankings and the Meta rankings, making Temirov’s victory arguably the biggest win of his career to date.
As for Steve Erceg, the immediate focus is recovery and regrouping after just the second knockout loss of his professional MMA career.
