The UFC fighter took to X in a now-deleted tweet to announce his return to Madison Square Garden in New York City on Nov 9. The venue is a popular yearly location for the UFC. The fighter has been out of the scene for quite some time, and fans were beginning to wonder if he’d ever come back before he made the big announcement.
Jon Jones has been absent from the octagon ever since he secured the then-vacant heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Before his break, Jones enjoyed several title reigns. His next opponent was Stipe Miocic, but he suffered a torn pectoral, which led to his withdrawal. However, Jones is adamant about facing Miocic, rounding up his last battle for the heavyweight title defense, and possibly retiring afterward.
Following his announcement, Aspinall- who faced Curtis Blaydes at the UFC 304 interim heavyweight title match- fired shots at the heavyweight fighter: “Usually, when the champ is coming back, the interim [champion] would obviously fight the champ. Jon Jones is holding s*** up lets the honest, He’s playing games.”
Jones did not take this message lying down. He fired back with a tweet reminding Aspinall that he was not on the same level as him. “Trolls telling me I’m slowing down the division by getting injured. Meanwhile, the next two heavyweights aren’t even a main event? Interesting. I’m on the right path. I got until November to remind the world. Again.” Jones advised Aspinall and Blaydes to fight for the chance to face him.
Although the UFC has not yet confirmed the fight, fans are hopeful for this comeback. The match promised to be the long-awaited battle between Jones and Miocic, who has fought since losing the UFC heavyweight title by knockout to Francis Ngannous at UFC 260
