Justin Gaethje is set to battle UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria at the upcoming UFC White House event, and the two fighters are already trading shots ahead of their highly anticipated clash.

The bout is scheduled for June 14, and the buildup has been intense. A recent video released by Topuria showed the champion dropping a white rose at a mock funeral for Justin Gaethje alongside several other opponents he has defeated during his rise through the division.

The rivalry has continued to heat up in recent weeks. Gaethje’s father previously dismissed Topuria as “another little short guy,” prompting the champion to respond with, “Fathers hope, champions know.”

That exchange was enough for Justin Gaethje to make things personal during an appearance on FOX News Australia. The interim UFC lightweight champion took a shot at Topuria’s divorce from Giorgina Uzcategui while discussing his upcoming opponent .

“All that guy is, is a gimmick,” Gaethje said. “He calls himself the king. He thinks he’s a God. What an annoying little bastard. I couldn’t imagine being in a room with him for 30 minutes listening to him talk about himself.

“And I can say this: I would leave him. That’s all I’m saying. I would leave him. No way I would put up with his sh*t.”
Justin Gaethje then suggested that Topuria’s confidence may eventually work against him despite the success it has brought him so far.

“Yeah, look, I was young and dumb once, too,” Gaethje said. “And up until this point, it’s served him well. People see the way he talks, and they believe it because he believes it, which is amazing, really.

“But it was similar with Paddy Pimblett. He was so full of himself. And it can be so detrimental to approach life that way, thinking you’re better than everybody else.”

For Justin Gaethje, the fight carries enormous stakes. Despite his lengthy run as one of the UFC’s most exciting fighters, he has yet to capture the undisputed lightweight title. This marks his second reign as interim champion, and it could be his final opportunity to cement himself as the undisputed king of the division.

With tensions rising and both men refusing to back down, Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria appear headed toward one of the most personal and explosive lightweight title fights of the year.
