It was a short night at the office for Filip Hrgovic as he battered Doncaster’s Dave “the White Rhino” Allen in what was expected to be an explosive bout maybe not up to the caliber of Wardley vs Dubois but competitive heavyweight action.
Hrgovic was all business and no breaks from the first bell as he used his educated jab, stayed away from dangerous shots, battered the man from Doncaster. It was effectively a one sided bout from there and that pattern followed until the third round when the referee called a stop to the contest after a sympathetic towel thrown by Jamie Moore to save his fighter as the White Rhino showed Zero resistance towards the Croatian’s assault. An A+ performance from Hrgovic, showing he is a force to be reckoned with at the top of the heavyweight division.
Looking to the future, Hrgovic has always had a great run against British fighters and a good match up for his quality as well as a great fight for the fans would be a title fight against Moses Itauma. The young warrior has been looking for a good test to show his full skillset against and if anyone can provide that outside of the championship level fighters, it would be Hrgovic. This contest would be a very solid fight for both their careers and the fans.
A win for Hrgovic against Itauma means there’s going to be a title fight next in his future barring any of the sanctioning bodies stripping Usyk and making Hrgovic vs Itauma for a belt. And a win for Itauma would truly announce him to the world as a champion in the making and put the current belt holders on notice.
As for Dave Allen, he still has interesting opportunities in the heavyweight division to make. Richard Riakphore, David Adeleye, Jamie TKV are a few names I would like to see him against. He may have been outgunned tonight but he has the skills to still make great fights for the fans.
There are so many fights to make in the heavyweight division as it’s so stacked and active. So whatever the next step is, we will all be watching Filip Hrgovic handle business.
