EARLY LIFE

Bruno Mukulu grew up as a second child in a family of 9. He fell in love with combat sports after the death of his father, who was a diamond dealer and began to train in fighting styles. He learned judo, karate, and boxing at the age of 11. The fighter started with Japanese jiu-jitsu before moving on to Taekwondo and a Congolese form of mixed martial art called “mukumbusu.”

After 7 years of practice, Mukulu finally got his black belt in the sport and decided to visit South Africa for the World Cup where he discovered other forms of MMA. He eventually stayed behind and joined the EFC. Mukulu is ranked #9 in South Africa’s pro welterweight and has been in seventeen professional bouts.

MMA CAREER

The fighter has mainly competed in EFC throughout his professional career. His first bout was at EFC Africa, where he faced Dricus Du Plessis and lost following a rear naked choke in round two. Next, he battled Juan Lubbe and won after pummeling his opponent with a flurry of strikes, which led to a TKO in round three. Soon, he lost to Wade Henderson after suffering a triangle choke in the second round.

Following this he came to a draw after facing Gordon Roodman at the EFC African 30, welterweight division. Next, Mukulu squared up against Shaun De Lange and won by a split decision from the judges. Afterward, he lost to Cameron Pritchard following a rear naked choke in the second round. Soon he faced Joe Cummins and lost after a unanimous decision. Dricus Du Plessis was his next opponent and he lost following a rear naked choke in round two. He soon encountered Stefan Pretorius and he dominated his opponent via a unanimous decision victory.

Subsequently, he defeated Wade Henderson in his next battle after hammering his rival with body kicks and savage strikes which led to a round two KO. Henry Fadipe was his next rival but he lost this match after suffering a TKO in the third round. Following this he faced Niel Du Plessis and won after a unanimous decision by the judges. Next, he fought against Dino Bugattin and lost via unanimous decision.

Later he faced Torbjorn Madsen who came with a few leg and body kicks. He went in for a takedown but Mukulu managed to break through and perform a takedown but Madsen went in for a full mount. He landed some heavy ground and pound with a few elbows before the round came to a close. Round two began with some missed punches before a takedown and a full mount by Madsen. He peppered Mukulu with some heavy blows before a tapout by Mukulu. The match ended with a KO win for Madsen.

Next, Mukulu faced Regis Muyambo and won following a unanimous decision. Following this he lost his last two battles against Boyd Allen and Peace Nguphane via unanimous decision and verbal submission consecutively.
